Many multivitamins look good until you read the fine print. Here are some key points to watch out for:

1) Potency
Don't be fooled by products that contain very low potencies of nutrients or specialty ingredients. Taking a multi with low potencies (called “window dressing”) means that you won't be getting the benefits that you have read about in scientific studies. Or else you will have to buy another product, and take more pills, to bring you up to the clinically substantiated potency.
2) Cheap Ingredients
You may think you are getting a good deal when you buy a less expensive multi. However, the reason the product costs less may be because the raw materials are cheaper. This may be fine, or it may be because the form of the nutrient is less desirable. For example, calcium carbonate, a commonly used form of calcium is not absorbed as well as calcium citrate (used in our Daily Multi). Magnesium citrate (also in Daily Multi) is preferable to magnesium oxide, which can cause stomach upset in some individuals.
3) Nutrients in Natural Forms
