Greetings and Welcome to my Weblog or Blog for short. I'm excited to be able to establish a dialog with others interested in a broad range of health related topics with an emphasis on dietary supplementation and life extension. I thought I'd kick things off with a brief bio and my goals for this blog.
Bio: I graduated from the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic (now SCUHS) in 1998 when I was 27 and have been a Cancer Survivor since that time as well. Having a strong educational background combined with my personal cancer experiences set the stage for the development of Pure Prescriptions, however it wasn't until I lost my father at a young 52 to Leukemia in 2001 did I set out to create the website and company Pure Prescriptions, Inc.
I have always been amazed by the strong sense of community that the world wide web can provide, especially in terms of access to health, education and the general sharing of knowledge. With this Blog, I plan to share my views about anything and everything health related. Whether it's cancer, arthritis, diabetes, weight loss or basic wellness tips and ideas you seek...I am sure to discuss it! I'll also pass along info about helpful sites that will serve to provide a more comprehensive explanation of all things health.
I welcome and encourage constructive feedback, suggestions and even questions! Just be sure to leave a comment at the end of every blog.

| This is a question I hear quite often and for good reason. What we put into our bodies should be deemed safe. But there are two other equally important questions to ask: Do they work and Does the government regulate them? Read on to get the facts re: these great questions! |

Great Quote of the times

I recently came across this quote from my friends at the Organic Wine Company and thought it was so on point: "If you trust Google more than your doctor then maybe it's time to switch doctors." -- Cristina Cordova This quote is kind of sad in a way because it really is a pathetic commentary on our healthcare system. I hear it everyday from our customers in that they feel rushed by their doctors and when any kind of supplement (vitamin, herb, etc.) recommendation is requested, a scoff of "No" is the usual response... |

| Yet another case to watch what you eat! Starbucks Corp. is cutting trans fats from the doughnuts, muffins and other treats in half of its U.S. stores, and plans to eventually drop the artery-clogging fats from company-operated coffeehouses across the country. |

I believe the popularity of NewGreens can be attributed to many factors (68 different factors, to be exact), however, I've always thought that it's the taste and the easy mixing that keeps me and thousands of our customers coming back for more... |

It's that time of the year again...The Holidays and the transition from one year into the next. I wanted to personally thank all of our wonderful customers that have helped shape Pure Prescriptions into the company it is today!
Pure Prescriptions sure has come a long way since our beginnings in 2001... but as I look back in reflection, I am quite proud that we still have that small company mentality and drive to help each and every one of our customers on a very real & individual basis. |

Coke isn't it

| "Harvard Study Links Coca-Cola to Diabetes, Weight Gain" -- Awhile ago I did a blog about pH values and why Alkalinity is an important aspect of health. My blog suggested that you not drink sodas unless you like an acidic and unhealthy body....I was reading one of my favorite publications just today and it cited a study done back in 2004 by Harvard's School of Public Health. The study covers one of the best known branded soft drinks, Coca Cola and why Coke isn't it. Or Pepsi. Or any sugar-sweetened soft drink. |

More Benefits From Statins?

|
| "More Benefits From Statins" is the title of an article recently penned from one of Yahoo's! health experts...This kind of article always just seems so odd to me. Odd in the sense that it seems that there is no shame in the game when it comes to pushing drugs. Yes, Statin drugs do lower cholesterol (at what cost), but fight inflammation as well and as this article suggests? |

mercury poses health concerns

| Ok, I was going to write a quick and hopefully informative blog entry about mercury. Yes, most of us have dental amalgams that contain mercury and most of us have also heard that this may actually be a bad thing...Personally, I had my mercury amalgams taken out and replaced by what I believe to be a safe resin filling, but I want you to read the following article about the pitfalls of mercury that not only lie within our molars , but in our diets, pesticides and vaccines. This great article by Dr. Isaac Gabriel Eliaz from Econugenics also touches on what you can do to reduce your exposure. |

| In this weeks Time Magazine, there is a great article entitled, "How Foods Can Affect Cancer" by Andrew Weil, MD. Dr. Weil covers what alternative doctors like myself and health conscious individuals have been saying for years; Eliminate red meat from your diet and choose soy based foods such as Isoflavone rich tempeh and tofu instead. If you want to avoid cancer you should probably read on.... |

Inflammation: A Strict Definition

|
|
| According to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, Inflammation is the first response of the immune system to infection or irritation and may be referred to as the innate cascade. Inflammation is characterized by the following quintet: redness (rubor), heat (calor), swelling (tumor), pain (dolor) and dysfunction of the organs involved (functio laesa). The first four characteristics have been known since ancient times and are attributed to Celsus; functio laesa was added to the definition of inflammation by Rudolf Virchow in 1858. |

| Now I'm not a vegetarian or anything because I still love fish every now and again. My weakness is seared Ahi....but I do try my best to opt for healthy organic vegetarian cuisine. One very good cookbook I like to look at for inspiration is Vegan World Fusion Cuisine. Vegan World Fusion Cuisine is a celebration of over 200 international gourmet vegan and live food cuisine recipes. |
